Recommendations
I recommended this book to anyone who likes a good, romantic book. It shows that
relationships can be hard at times, but can change easily. Katie and Kevin are
complete opposites, and are what a relationship shouldn’t look like. Seeing this
in the book, and then looking how far she has come, relationship wise, is
outstanding. With Kevin she was tormented, and now with Alex she feels as if
it’s a dream. Alex makes her feel good again as a person. He also is everything
a woman wants from a man and more. In the book Alex and Katie show a good
relationship such as, “And when they kissed, which happened with surprising
frequency, there were times when her knees went shaky” (Sparks 167). In this
book when the character shows strong emotions, it makes the reader feel closer
to the character. It almost feels like your really getting to know what the
character is really like. If you like reading about good romance, but not too
much of it, I recommended this book.
This book keeps you thinking all the
time. It makes you question things such as, what’s going to happen next, and why
things happen. It makes your mind race because of all things happening. Knowing
about Katie’s past makes you question society, and appreciate what you have in
life. Katie says that she can’t do anything around Kevin. Kevin watched Katie
all the time, “She didn’t have a car or even a license and he swung by their
house whenever he was in the area, just to make sure she was at home” (Sparks
160). She only believes it because she knows he could hurt her. She couldn’t
call the police either because he is the police, so she had no way out. In the
beginning of the book, it makes people feel sorry for Katie, and all she’s been
through. Later on it makes you wonder how she got out of her old life, into a
great life. I recommend this book to readers who like books that keep your mind
turning while reading.
I would recommend this book to those who don’t like hearing one
perspective throughout a story. In Safe
Haven there are three points of views. Mainly it is Katie because she is the
protagonist. Kevin gets a lot of his views throughout the story as well, to get
to know the antagonist better. Then the last point of view is Alex, which is
good to hear what he is thinking about, too. I think it’s better to know what
the main characters are all thinking about. Knowing all the characters thoughts
makes the book more interesting. Each character has different point of views,
which leads to mysteries in the book. It’s also interesting to get inside the
characters head, to get to know them better. Once again, I recommend this book
to those who like having different views of a
situation.
This book consists of many flashbacks. Flashbacks help the reader
understand the past events. In the beginning of this book you don’t know
anything, and you feel lost. Later on when flashbacks occur you really get to
know Katie better. Flashbacks occur not only with Katie, but with both, Kevin
and Alex. The flashbacks in this book tell the reader all the struggles Katie
went through, to get to a better life-which makes the book much more
interesting. The good things about the flashbacks are that, the reader can see
how much better Katie is now. Before Katie was abused, and on a lock down,
twenty-four seven. Now Katie is with a good man, two kids, and in a lovely town.
I would encourage readers to read Safe
Haven because their flashback makes you hooked on the
book.
